Good things happen when Funk Zone veterans and local artists Jill Johnson and Wallace Piatt collaborate. The recent result is LOVEWORN, an edgy, approachable, and refreshingly original boutique. It’s an artistic mélange of vintage California, road-trip, rock-and-roll, and old-school surf and beach culture, reflected in an exclusive selection of custom made, handcrafted clothing and accessories. The Denim Body Shop, housed in the back of the store, boasts an impeccably-curated collection of vintage denim in a variety of sizes and styles.
After spending the last decade creating in the Funk Zone, Santa Barbara’s dining, wine tasting and retail hotspot, Jill found a space that had “amazing energy, history, and was near the beach” - all requisite for the Loveworn location. Her first call was to best friend and former business partner, Wallace, who immediately came on board to co-create the interior. A full-time artist with a nearby studio, Wallace produces the silkscreened tee shirts and one-of-a-kind pieces - painted, patched, and studded jackets and “punk-rock” cashmere sweaters. Jill’s focus is on running the business and growing the brand, yet she still manages to design and sew a collection of colorful mini dresses, as well as elaborately embellished, perfectly worn-in custom denim creations. Sustainability and the environment are priorities at LOVEWORN and this commitment is always demonstrated in the effort to salvage denim, and offer repairs, alterations and custom work.
